This is my favorite race ever. Next November 9th will be my sixth attempt to WIN! So far I’ve managed a 3rd out of 5 attempts but the other attempts have been close to embarrassing. Here is a video clip I took of the course at just a bit faster than race pace. What I do is play the video while I’m on my indoor roller and with my hear rate monitor mimic the intensity of previous races. To simulate a hill I put it in a harder gear. I keep the speed at between 40 & 50kph. At the 8km mark I put it in the big chain ring (if it isn’t already) and hold a painful cadence and heavy gear for the next 2kms. This is the hardest part of the race. 8 to 10km and the last 18 to 20km mark. If I do 20kms on the roller (watch the vid twice) I go all out for the last km till I’m almost out of control and about to bounce off the roller and into the TV. Make sure your cycling insurance covers damage to TVs and other parts of the interior to your house.
