11 riders tonight. Slow start, medium middle, then the attack. 2 or 3 in the breakaway and we almost got to them with 2 laps to go but had to stop for a pedestrian. Then on the last lap we were catching them in the sprint but was all too late. They beat us. One mistake I made tonight was to forget to see what time we started. We ride for exactly an hour and my Garmin had already been swotched on for an hour or so. I didn’t even know when the last lap was approaching. Not that it would have helped all that much. We were going pretty much flat out trying to get to them regardless of how many laps were left. Can’t beat them if you can’t catch them. They’ve got the break away point well plotted as well. Right in a dead spot on the little climb we do. If you are going too fast here you are wasting energy so we tend to take it easy. That’s where they go. Then it’s too hard to follow. You can’t plan it for every lap though as you’d waste the energy trying to cover their attack each time. They make sure they are at the back at this point too. If you slow down to be behind them they’ll still kick away at that point. Another few kilos to lose to make sure I can accelerate there with them at any time. Rarrrrr!
