Went to my first ‘Nagara’ training today in the hills of Chiba boso near Honda. I’ve heard about these hills for about two years and it was the first time I had a chance to ride there.
About 12 Semas riders all together.
The morning rendezvous was at 6 a.m and I woke up at 5:50a.m. Downed a glass of water and grabbed an apple, threw all my stuff in the car hoping I hadnt forgotten anything and sped off to get there about 10 minutes late.
In the process of running late it looks like I’ve lost my new sunglasses!
From Omiya interchange we parked at the Family Mart and got ready to roll. Probably about 7:30 a.m we were on the road. To get to the loop is an easy 20km or so ride. The loop itself is 10km. After a lap or two I got dropped when an early attack was launched up the steepest hill. This is where the final sprint occurs. For the next lap I was about 200m behind and couldn’t get back to the pack. At the hill again I was spent and caught up with Mr. Y who then did a lap with me. We stopped again at the hill and waited for the final sprint.
On the way back to the car, I got dropped again up a hill and I took the wrong exit at Honda interchange. I thought I was on the right road but after 30 minutes or so declared myself lost.
By the time I figured out where the Omiya Interchange was on my garmin I’d say a good 30 or 40 minutes had passed. I was about 7km away.
Got back with my tail between my legs and apologized to all for keeping them waiting. Seems like they were all happy having there lunch anyways and I don’t think (hope) anybody was heldp up at all.
I managed to down a few nori makis and then back in the car and home.
Today:92km.
Year: 3055km.
