Lunar won’t eat her normal Science Diet dry food so I’m cooking her up liver and hearts and chicken and beef and also handfuls of tiny dried fish. Her calcium levels were a little low the other day so the fish should help.
She still has diarrhea and is walking around very slowly. She is a great mum though, cleaning and feeding and protecting. Luckily I’m off for the next few weeks to make sure they are all fed and rested adequately.
The tails will have to be docked soon. Illegal in some countries and I understand the reasoning for both sides of the argument. My illogical logic for getting it done is: If we get it done people will take them and be good owners. I don’t think anybody in Japan looking for an Airedale wants them with long tails. They have a shot at a long happy life and it is a shame to inflict intentional pain on any living animal but it will make them show material. It will ensure that the breed will be continued. I know they are all going to be loved and looked after. Airedales are popular for the shape as well as the temperament. Not a very good argument there! How about chickens and cows and sheep. We breed them to kill and eat. If everybody was a vegetarian most of those animals would never have had even the few months of life that they did had. Life is a cycle and bits of it are painful. The pain makes the life all the more precious. Is that better?
