Wet Weekend

May 31, 2009 | Leave a Comment

The clouds were thick this morning but was dry enough to head out to training.  Can’t remember the last time I went as the weather, Saitama TT and TOJ have interrupted the last few weeks.
Was humid with a slight headwind for the sprint home. A small 4 man group was not big enough to shield [...]

Too Fast

Tuesday night really drained all my energy.
Last night with the faster sprint training I was left for dead from the start.
Didn’t contest one sprint. Got dropped twice and took the short cut up the center to rejoin everybody twice. Even dropped a whole lap and let them re-join me.
Took a few heavy pulls at the [...]

Continued my Tuesday night winning streak. Will have to go back through the archives now to see how many in a row. Funny how the will to win is stronger at training than in a real race. I even said last night, ‘I don’t think I will try too hard tonight…’.
10 riders.
54.5kph Max. No heart [...]

Was one of those days where you would rather stay in bed. Cold & rainy. The worst conditons for this course.
I had little to no motivation at all for this unless the sun was going to come out before the start and dry the whole place out. This course is even dangerous when it’s dry. [...]

Last Supper

Had a nice slow ride to Sekiyado for my pre-race day lunch by the castle.

Left to right… Icy cold water, bottle of vitamins, glass of vitamins, grilled eel on rice (unagi-don), some pickled vegetables, a bowl of miso/wakame soup and some green beans that are eaten when you drink beer!
Did I say beer?

Had my last hard training session before this Sunday’s Tour of Japan Tokyo stage race.
I’ll be in the 2A category and I’m pleased with my form.
Tonight there were 10 of us and we started a bit late but we all knew it would still be an hour till the sprint.
On about the 2nd lap I [...]

Was called up for another out of the blue Noda sprint training tonight. My legs still felt lethargic from Tuesday. 3 riders tonight which is better than 1. Both were stronger than me. 5km warm up, 10 X 3.8km sprints. 5km cool down. (48km). I only won the last sprint. Again I got them tired…tired [...]

I prayed for rain in hope that I wouldn’t have to push my lazy bones around again like I did last night.
The weather report had rain on the radar right on start time.
Not one to just not turn , I got ready, left 30 minutes early and did a semi-warm-up. A few slow kilometers.
I then [...]

After bathing in the glory of our win at the Tsukuba 8 hour enduro for a week I finally got back on the bike the following Sunday. It felt like I had been off the bike for a month. I took out the Fondriest with Chazzer from TCC who made an early start from central [...]
