About
Seeing as I’m using my blog a lot more now than I thought it would be better to expand it and make it look like a real blog.
I’ll edit this page as I think of things to put here but basically it will be a summary of who I am and what I do.
For starters:
Born in Sydney Australia in 1963, I spent the first 26 years of my life in Oz, before getting the travel bug.
After 6 months traveling around the U.S and Europe and going back to my old job for a year I ended up in Japan in 1991. I spent almost a year working at Tokyo Disneyland pretending to learn Japanese where I met my wife to be.
We went to live in Australia for about 2 years and that is where my first son was born. This was all before internet and emails so telephone bills were big. Figuring out that it would be cheaper to move back to Japan rather than pay the phone bills, we came back in Nov 1993. Been here the whole time since excpet for the odd trip home.
What do I do in Japan?
Being lazy, unqualified and desperate for money to support my family I started to teach English. I was at one time working for as many as 5 companies a week to make enough to feel like I was doing OK!. In the last few years I’ve slackened off a bit and have halved my workload.
I own a small English school at www.koalajapan.com that was growing quite big. Due to fatigue, my new job and a down turn in the economy I’m not working os much there but am concentrating on other things.
My main job now is at a high school where I teach a special writing course, conversation classes and also a bit of physics and chemistry. Although the hours have halved the intensity and workload seems to have doubled. I must be getting old.
In my spare time I cycle. (check out the blog). I also have 2 Airedale Terriers that need more of my time.
Hmmmm… Will come back tomorrow and work on tis some more…
